Marklund Atelier is a Copenhagen practice working across architecture, interiors and objects. We were founded in 2011 by three people who had trained in different disciplines and were tired of handing work over at the boundaries between them.

We think of a project as a single continuous decision that happens to be executed at several scales. The same question — what should this feel like to be inside, in ten years, on an ordinary Tuesday — is asked of a plan, of a plaster mix and of a chair leg. It is not a philosophy so much as a working method, and it is the reason our drawings tend to get shorter as a project goes on rather than longer.

The work is quiet, but it is not minimal for its own sake. We use few materials because we want to use them properly, and we leave surfaces unsealed because a building that is allowed to age is more forgiving than one that is not. What we are actually trying to make is a room that somebody wants to sit in for an hour without a reason.

There are twelve of us, eleven in Copenhagen and one in Hong Kong. We take on a small number of commissions each year and we do not tender.
